My 233 Personal Favorite Albums (pt 5/6)

Here we are folks!
Almost done. Part 5 of 6. #80-41. Here are some words:

Perhaps it's worth noting how I described my #81 album. My memories attached to it are "when I started to feel music again." It's definitely part of my life story that is difficult for me to expound on. But that description alone shows how much heavy significance that Bon Iver album holds. And yet... I have 80 albums ranked higher. So these are all pretty darn important to me.
It should also be noted that the Erykah Badu album ranked down at #206 simply reminded me of "enjoying music in my 30s." A lot of this stuff at the top is gonna be from when I was attending either high school or college. I hardly remember my life before high school. And most of my life after college hasn't been charged with explosive new music memories. There's psychology behind this.

This part of the series has a few moments where I can't contain myself but to expound on personal details. Also: Spiffy new headline picture!

Some albums in this background made the list.

80
The Band
The Band
Fall 2015.

79
The Band
Music from Big Pink
Fall 2015.

78
Frank Ocean
Channel Orange
USU fall semester 2012.

77
The Magnetic Fields
69 Love Songs

76
Simon & Garfunkel
Bookends
Rainy spring days, 2019.

75
Simon & Garfunkel
Bridge Over Troubled Water
USU spring semester 2016. Honestly, I had a S&G greatest hits comp I listened to all the time when I was 18. I eventually tried all their albums when I was in my 20s. Spiritually, S&G are like a top 10 music group for me.

74
Neil Young w/Crazy Horse
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
USU fall semester 2013.

73
Fleet Foxes
Helplessness Blues
Spring 2013.

72
The Beatles
The Beatles (White Album)
Fall 2015. So, yes, this is my highest ranked Beatles album on here. My parents were playing The Beatles around me since my very birth. Later in life, you get into cultural history, and you're told The Beatles are the greatest band of all time. It's an easy sell, and I still believe they're the greatest. As for personal memories in my developmental years, White Album is a standout. I recall listening to it as a kid, and I thought it stunk. Revisiting it at age 24 blew my mind. It's been my favorite ever since.

71
Miles Davis
Kind of Blue
Doing homework late at night.

70
Sun Kil Moon
Benji
USU spring semester 2014. This was a new Pitchfork-approved album that became the soundtrack to me training for my first (and fastest) half marathon. There were a few years where I considered this semester to be some of the greatest days of my life. Over time, I actually stopped looking back at this time fondly, at all. Not sure if anybody else here has an era like that.

69
Yo La Tengo
And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out
Lying awake at night on antipsychotics.

68
LCD Soundsystem
This Is Happening
Spring 2013.

67
Vampire Weekend

Summer 2013.

66
The Microphones
The Glow Pt. 2
Makeshift camping trips... Cold summer nights in the mountains.

65
Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin IV
Middle school. There were a couple years in my childhood where classic rock was my favorite genre. Age 11-13. I believe this is the first CD I ever bought with my own money. Classic rock is why I learned to play guitar. I wanted to sound like Led Zeppelin. I owned all their albums. This remains my favorite of theirs, and probably the greatest ALL-CAPS "CLASSIC ROCK" album ever.

64
Stevie Wonder
Innervisions
JHS cross country, junior year.

63
Silver Jews
American Water
Summer 2016.

62
Smog
Knock Knock
Summer 2016.

61

Lying awake at night on antipsychotics.

57
Bob Dylan

56
Sonic Youth
Daydream Nation
Anxiety!

55
Prince
Purple Rain
Summer 2019.

54
Talking Heads
Remain in Light
My 1 semester at CSI. I always look back on this time negatively, and yet, the 5 CDs I bought this semester are all ranked REALLY high on this list. Perhaps some new feelings settling in for the first time. Adult depression, for one. But also developing new music tastes.

53
Built to Spill
Keep It Like a Secret
USU fall semester 2015.

52
Bright Eyes
I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
2019.

51
Animal Collective
Strawberry Jam
Summer 2016.

50
The Avalanches
Since I Left You
Springtime.

49

2015.

48
R.E.M.
Murmur
Summer 2008.

47
Belle and Sebastian
If You're Feeling Sinister
Rainy spring days, 2019.

46
Wilco
Summerteeth
Summer 2013.

45
Songs: Ohia
Magnolia Electric Co.
Summer 2016.

44
Jeff Buckley
Grace
Being 28. Or rather, the year 2019. All spent on antipsychotics. Getting tired of differentiating these miniscule things... I started taking antipsychotics in Oct 2018. My 28th birthday was in Nov. Then I remember telling Facebook that I'd spend that New Year's Eve ugly crying to Jeff Buckley. I gained lots of super impactful music memories from that first year on antipsychotics. And Grace became huge for me.

43
The Replacements
Tim
2016, 2017.

42
The Replacements
Let It Be
USU spring semester 2013.
